I honestly didn’t know there was such a thing, but it’s not too surprising: January 20, 2013, has been designated as National Choir Appreciation Sunday. The good folks at Worship Sounds argue that this could and should be extended to include all those involved in music ministry, and I have to agree. I know my church no longer has a choir, but I have a dedicated team of volunteer musicians, singers, and sound techs that certainly deserve a day of appreciation as well.

Since appreciation, thankfulness, and encouragement arealways appropriate at every time of year, such an event is a good reminder for those who lead in Music and Worship Ministry that we need to express thankfulness publicly for the volunteers who give so much of their time and energy to participate in Choir and other Music Ministry organizations, with the purpose of using their talents to glorify and honor the Lord.

The article includes some great suggestions on ways to show your church’s appreciation for those in music ministry.
