The Need For Modern Music

It’s true: some modern worship songs are shallow. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t do new songs. I mean, some old songs are pretty bad, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t do old songs, right?

Eric Drew shares his thoughts on why the church needs new worship music:

Worship style is near and dear to the hearts of God’s people. I love people who prefer traditional worship and have had many experiences of encountering God through traditional expressions of worship. I’ve also come across some boring, old, thoughtless traditional services. Without a doubt not all contemporary music is great and not all contemporary services offer robust liturgy and theology. As Eric points out, we shouldn’t indiscriminately add new music to our worship sets, but with thoughtful evaluation, we can and should add new songs to our catalog.
