Becoming A Servant

Jed Smith shares a story about irritation, guitar gear, and learning to be a servant:

When rehearsal finally starts, I’m expecting to play a lot of music. That doesn’t happen. It feels like we’re spending more time working out technical difficulties than we are playing the songs. I am irritated.

This shouldn’t have surprised me. We aren’t just recording the night of worship–we’re recording the rehearsals, too. This is the first time we have ever done anything like this. We’re using some of this equipment for the first time. Of course, there is a lot to work out.

That doesn’t occur to me. Instead, I’m irritated and feeling self entitled. Doesn’t everyone know that I have settings to tweak? I deserve better than this.

Then there is the moment of realization.
